Swim Lessons 2023

To be eligible for complimentary swim lessons, your family must have an active membership at Wallingford Swim and Racquet Club.

The purpose of the WSARC swim lesson program is for children to develop water safety, learn the rules of the pool, and build relationships with our staff.

Lessons are for children ages 3 and up who have not yet passed their L Pool swim test. Children who have passed their pool test should consider the Little Gators Developmental Swim Team or Walligators Swim Team. Swim Team: Each season all new swimmers and all returning 8 & under swimmers must be evaluated by a swim team coach (unless explicitly told otherwise). Registration ends June 9th.

All lessons will be held in the L Pool, with the exception of the Tadpoles lessons, which will be held in the Turtle Pool.

There will be five weeks of morning lessons offered. We will run on a Monday through Thursday schedule, with no lessons being held on Fridays. (No lessons will take place on July 4th.)

Each session will have a maximum number of children permitted in the group. No exceptions will be made to add children to a group. WSARC reserves the right to move children from small groups to make a larger group. For example, if there are only 1 or 2 children signed up for a session, the pool manager will contact all parties involved to consolidate into one session.

A SignUpGenius link will be used to sign up for lessons. The link will be sent to all members in late spring via an email blast. You may sign up for all sessions at that time.

Before each lesson begins, please drop off your child at the designated pool and lesson group. We request that all parents/guardians sit far away from the pool, preferably on the main grassy grounds or the deck. This will ensure the comfort of your child and the instructors.

Information on Levels for Lessons

TADPOLES: For the beginner swimmer, at least 3 years of age, who cannot yet swim independently and may be unsure of the water. Children will work on getting face/head wet, blowing bubbles, floating, and playing basic water games. The focus of these lessons is for children to become more water safe and feel comfortable in the water.

SUNFISH: For children who are comfortable underwater but cannot yet swim without the help of flotation devices. Children will work on endurance floating and be introduced to freestyle and backstroke.

DOLPHINS: For children who can swim mostly without flotation or support. Children must also be comfortable with some rhythmic breathing (breathing to the side). The children will continue to practice and build upon basic skills, now performing more skills without the aid of a flotation device.

SHARKS: For children working to improve strokes and endurance in pursuit of passing their L Pool swim test. Children will continue to refine basic strokes and work on treading water. The focus of this group is to work towards passing their L Pool swim test.

Our lifeguards provide private swim lessons. Please reach out to a manager for contact information or directly to the lifeguard. A half an hour private lesson ranges from $15-$30, determined by the individual lifeguard and are held during normal operating hours. These private sessions allow for lessons to be adapted to the needs of the individual child.
