May 25, 2016

Just four days left until the opening of WSARC for the Summer of 2016!  Our open house this past weekend was an amazing success.  WSARC has recently signed up over 30 new families, with 10 new families signed up just from our open house.  Thank you to all for a great turnout Sunday and for spreading the word about WSARC and all that our Club has to offer.Anyone that was able to make it out on Sunday may have noticed that our Turtle Pool was recently resurfaced in preparation for our opening.  There will be some roughness to the bottom of the pool for a short period of time as the surface settles.

Now onto our programming for the summer…

2016 Outdoor Tennis Season
We are excited to reveal the programming schedule for the outdoor tennis season at WSARC.  In addition to the 7 weeks of programming you’ve come to expect from the club, new and different opportunities to play tennis throughout the outdoor season are here!

March 5, 2016

As most of you know, the warm weather is arriving.  With the warmth, comes the notion that our swim team members will soon be enjoying themselves preparing for all the fun the swim program offers.

Your WSARC Board is proud to introduce our new Varsity Head Coach and our new Junior Varsity Head Coach.  Both young ladies come to us with a myriad of talents and qualifications.  Below, you will read an introduction from each coach.

Please welcome Katie and Alicia with open arms to our program.

Varsity Head Coach – Katie Harnish

My name is Katie Harnish and my whole life has pretty much been swimming. I started with lessons at Lower Merion Aquatics where I first learned how to put my face in the water. From there, I joined Hilltop Swim Club in Havertown. It would be there that I spent my next 13 summers as a Hilltop shark. I’ve been involved in multiple swimming programs such as, the Springfield Healthplex, Suburban Aquatic League, and the Community YMCA in Lansdown. I attended Cardinal O’Hara High School where  I was part of the team from 2006-2010. I earned a spot on the varsity team my freshman year and then on the All Catholic team my next three. My relay won the 200 freestyle relay my sophomore year and we were honored in the newspaper. My swimming career did not stop after high school as I continued on to swim at Widener University for my four years of college. As far as coaching goes I always assisted at my summer club when I swam there because even though swimming is very much an individual sport, I believe that in being part of a team everyone should want to see success as a whole group. Once I was in college I was an assistant coach at Llanerch Country Club in Havertown, and then moved on to head coach at The Springhaven Club in Wallingford. Currently I am a proud alumni coach for the Lansdown YMCA for their winter season where I am in charge of dry land workouts and any age group practice.

My values as a coach stand as followed: FUN, spirit, respect, and hard work. If I can instill these qualities in a team as well, I feel as if my job has been done. Summer swimming is all about learning, team  comradery, and fun. My mission is to make sure every summer is unforgettable and to work hard and come out on top. Let’s go Wallingford!

JV Head Coach – Alicia Jenkins

My name is Alicia Jenkins and I am really excited about coaching at Wallingford Swim Club this summer.  I can not think of a better way to start the summer off with you and your children! Some of my favorite memories growing up were forged during my summers on swim team and I’m really looking forward to creating more great memories with your kids.  I had such a great experience with summer swimming lead me to stay with competitive swimming straight through college.  I just graduated from Widener University with a degree in Social Studies Education.  I swam for the Widener Pride for 4 years, and was captain for 2 of those years.  I competed in the distance freestyle events.  I have made it onto the Widener Swimming Top Ten list in two of my events.  In my four years competing I placed top 8 in the mile all 4 years, and twice in the 500 Freestyle.  While I can not promise your kids will swim in college I can promise that we will do our best to make sure every child has a great experience this summer with lots of opportunities for fun times, some hard work, and hopefully fast times.  Go Wallygators!!

WSARC Update
Wallingford Swim and Racquet Club hopes everyone in our community weathered last weekend’s “Snowmagedon” well.  Keep dreaming of warm thoughts because before you know it, WSARC will be open for business.  Your WSARC board has already met once, in 2016, to plan a successful, fun-filled summer.

-As we mentioned in the last update, a new website is being designed currently for the club.  WSARC.org is up and running.  Our new website is still in its infancy, but it is looking fantastic.  Please take a moment and view it and share with your friends and family.

-WSARC would like to welcome Jess King to our management team.  Jess has accepted the assistant manager’s position and will be spearheading our swim lesson program.  Jess brings with her a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge of WSARC.  Ronnie and Drew are excited to have Jess on their team.  Please welcome Jess back with open arms when you see her at the club.

– Swim Update-

  • Your WSARC board has decided to move our entire swim program in a new direction.  Jeanine will not be with us this summer and we wish her and her family nothing but the best.  We thank her profusely for her time with us.  In the near future, we will be updating the membership as we move our program down a new and exciting road.

– Tennis-

  • Again, WSARC is excited to have Jarrod Grant, owner of Jarrod Grant Tennis School, to our club.  A tremendous response from our membership has occurred, once word got out that Jarrod was coming to WSARC.  Our Tennis memberships have spiked since our announcement that Jarrod will be running all aspects of our summer tennis program.  Please set time aside this summer to participate in the many programs that Jarrod will be running.

-Membership-

  • Membership Referral Contest – For every individual/family you refer to the WSARC board, your name will be entered into a drawing for a free membership.  Let’s see how many families you can refer!

– Payments are now being accepted for your club membership:

  • Members can begin paying their 2016 dues at this time.  Checks can be sent to P.O. Box 490, Wallingford PA, 19086 for any portion of your dues. Dues are not changing from last year. If you have any questions about the amount of your dues, please email us atwallingfordswimandracquet@yahoo.com.
